Hi Chris,

Sure, here is a little bit more about the App and why I wrote it. I am a model railroader hobbyist myself, and initially started out tracking my collection using things like an Excel spreadsheet. I also have a personal blog and was keeping that updated as well. You can see it here: http://www.thekellehers.com/index.php/trains/equipment

I looked for custom software tailored specifically to allow me to track my collection better, but was disappointed with the lack of quality in the few options that are already out there, which are mostly PC based as well. Since I work as a software developer professionally, I decided to put together an App that I could use and have with me to update and share no matter where I was at. Imagine going into the local train shop or to a train show and being able to quickly determine what you have and what you might need (according to me) or want (according to my wife)!

Model Train DB is based on a fully functional relational database design. This makes it very fast and efficient to store and search for your models.

Because it is a iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad App, this makes it very easy and convenient to use. Make updates where you store, work on or run your trains, not at your computer where ever that might be. You can also take pictures with your iPhone/iPad to store with the information you select and enter.

This design also allows for you to seamlessly synchronize your data across all of your “i” devices using the new iCloud, and you don’t need to worry about backups or data loss.

The App allows you to organize and classify using four levels of table edited classification fields (category, sub-category, type and sub-type). This allow exceptional organization flexibility. While we provide a suggested structure to these fields, you are free to modify these to accommodate your preferences.

Also enter only the information you want. There is no need to maintain all the data elements available. Choose which items you want to keep track of and record only the information about them that you care about. You can keep more information about some items and less about others.

Thanks for the feedback. After our initial release, we may consider releasing an Android version as well. Unfortunately you need to develop both separately, there is no easy conversion between the platforms.
