I'm looking for a MJE3055, Silicon Epitaxial Planar Transistor, WOW! I'm not sure what it does but I need one and on-line they go from .99 to 11.96! The only electronics store I have is Radio Shack and have no way to cross reference this number to a Radio Shack one. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks Jeff, that should do. It is for a capacitor discharge circuit to make my twin coil switch machines really snap! Brian

I'm quite certain that any NPN power transistor in a TO-220 package would do the job just as well.

Thanks for the info. I purchased all the supplies at Radio Shack today and built the circuit on my breadboard, hooked it up and it worked! Problem is that it didn't give me the "thwack" I was expecting, soundwise. No difference with or without it. I'll put it together anyway as I like the looks of that 2200uF cap!

This is the Circuit I built.Does it look OK? Could I change any values to get a more substantial action from the twin coil machines? I used "B" with the resistor being 220 Ohm 1/2 watt, trans mje3055, diode 1n5400 and a 2200uF cap. 22.5 vDC input.
