I was looking eBay earlier for some new milw engines. I bought a f45 and will be getting a few others after the new year. I noticed a few gp9m engines painted for the Milwaukee but haven't been able to find any pics of one. Does anyone know if the Milwaukee actually had any or if the Walthers train line run is just inaccurate. I've currently got a gp9 and gp30 plus a the f45 I won today on eBay. I don't need a lot of engines but some more small power would be nice. Also could I buy the gp9m and renumber it to be a gp20? I'm not sure what the differences are, if any, so that could be my way of getting a gp20 with out scratch building one. Thanks, Jim

They did have them. Do a search for "fallen flag railroad photos" and you will bring up George Ellwood's site. There are several Milwaukee GP9s there.
Thanks for the reply, I'll have to check it out. I usually go to railroad picture archives to get any pics or info

GP9M's were rebuilt GP9's with upgrades.........The Milwaukee Road actually called theirs "GP20's" since the upgrades included a 2000 hp engine. The conversions were all done in the Milwaukee Roads shops, and there was a variety of variations......for example the first units (18) retained the number boards in the chopped noses and did not receive the upgraded air intakes/filters. The next group (36 units) had the original number boards covered and new boards added to the cab. All the units had their dynamic brakes removed. The rebuilds started in 1969 and they ran out of funds after the 54 units .
Wow that's very helpful, thanks. I'll have to come up with a way to cut out the dynamic brakes then cuz the Walthers models have the dynamics still. I'm not too good at modifying things but I'll have try. I ordered two last night so hopefully I can get em started soon.
