Hey guys,
I carved out the gulley for my little stream/river on my layout in the extruded foam. I was thinking I am going to cover over it with my plaster impregnated cloth, and then paint it (with latex paint I hear?) to seal it all up.
I was then thinking of pouring like Envirotex into it, about 1/8" at a time.
Should this work alright, or any suggestions?
Thanks!
Kyle
Yep, that will work fine. Just make sure your stream channel is totally sealed since envirotex will find the smallest opening and seep out. The paint is only for scenic effects, it really won't help seal the channel. The best way to check is have someone get under the stream channel with a flashlight in a dim room and them look for any light leaks. If you can see light, you'll need to add either some plaster cloth or latex caulk to seal it and let it dry a day before you pour the envirotex.
I have only so much experience, but I had read that the channel to be filled with "water" needed to be thoroughly ready for the pour, and that any pinholes or larger would guarantee drops of the solution where you didn't want or need it. So, for the sealing part, I used a powdered putty and mixed that with water, gooped it into the reservoire and spread it around. I made sure any gaps or seams were sealed by the putty. Once it was dry, I sanded it smooth-ish and then painted it to look like varied depths prior to the pour. For the open edges of the water course, I used the green painter's tape pressed well against the edges of the material around the open end...creating a dam, in other words. Then, I made a single pour of about one eight of an inch of a two part epoxy. It turned out well.
I suppose plaster cloth could work, but I would augment it with another smear of pure plaster of Paris. The Envirotex will find its way through any little holes that may be left when you use the paster cloth unless you also seal the gaps.
Sounds great, but before you pour maybe give some thought to what could go under the water , like plants, fish, a shark?, a drowned dude? swimmers or a nice Zebra cow, Just kidding about the drowned dude, I've done that one!
Most of all have fun....hummm, a shopping cart rusted and some old tires maybe....
Making water....hee hee hee,
Here we have a woman driver,
how about a sub, so the young lovers can watch the sub race's
oh and the dead dude,
Skinny dippers,
The lost cow maybe?
A whirl pool?
Maybe a track over the water?
How does your water get there?
Just some ideas,
Yup, I'm a crazy HO modler out of control.
Think about your water and what you want it to say about your layout.
happy Rails, now where did I put that monkey for my out house?
