Hi all,
I have a question about printing color decals, ie blue, red, black etc. Everything but white. I did a search and found questions on white but nothing on color so I apologize if this has been discussed before.
I saw several different options for printing decals. I have a photo printer and need to make the above colored decals. Is it easier then trying to do white decals? Thanks all.
I don't know about everyone else, but I have an ink jet printer and I buy decal sheets in clear, then download what I need in the size and format I like, then hit the ol print button, and the printer fixes me up. I've had very little problems with any color. Don't think I'm an expert, I'm about as computer illeterate as they come, but I figure if I can do it then everyone should have no problems.
Who's paper do you use? Do you have to seal the paper after it prints?
I had just picked up some decal sheets from Hobby Lobby (decided to make a run into the city). They are from Testors. If you give me a couple of days I will try to remember to let you know how it works.
I have a pak of each of Testors clear & white. Even when you make any color & put them on clear the color of the piece of rolling stock or engine will show thru the letters or numbers. This is w/a Jetprinter. The only way you can make a decal on clear is w/a Dry Printer. So, if you want nice decals & you are going to put them on a white background U can use clear, otherwise the backing paper has to be white.
After the decal is made & you let it sit for about 30 minutes it has to be sprayed w/Krylon super clear w/a couple of even sprays. Then it has to dry for at least 24 hrs. before you can use them.
I made a bunch of decals in bright colors to go on fences(board & metal) all over my layout. The metal fences are in gray & when I put the decals on those fences the color showed right thru the letters. Now, when I put them on I paint a white patch the same size as the decal. W/the cost of decal paper, color cartridges, spray paint & time it's cheaper to buy what you need from a hobby shop. I use a lot of Dry Transfers that a Forum Member gave me a cpl. years ago & a friend made a bunch of decals for my GAP engines & rolling stock. He owns his own decal company. He won't make any for anyone else though. he makes large quanities of cals for large companies.
