Mail Call! Railway Post Office, commonly abbreviated as RPO has rolled in!

This past Sunday there was a Lehigh Valley Railroad meet near Easton, Pennsylvania. While not a large show, it draws a lot of older gentlemen who have been in the hobby for a long time and have lived through, and witnessed some of the last years of the so called steam to diesel transition years. These guys and the generation who grew up in the 1960s and 70s i find very interesting to chat with. The materials they bring are especially noteworthy if you're into old materials. I snagged this package with plans for Philadelphia and Reading (aka Reading Railroad) of many of their major steam locomotives:

There are probably 20 different classes of steam, including the very elusive N1 mallet (on top) and the price was a steal. Below is a plan for their one of a kind L6-sa, the only "ten wheeler" with cab in the back on the railroad:

Next what was probably the largest and heaviest "American" ever built:

And ofcourse their only fully streamlined class:

Rebuilt especially for their "Crusader" trains between Philly and Jersey City.

Wow! What a great find!

In the pipe today from Midwest Model Railroad came 2 of the 6 MMR/Intermountain RCPE patched covered hoppers…
Perfect starting point for weathering. If you are thinking of getting some of these, look closely at the pics on the MMR website as the rust pattern on the wheat sheaf logo repeats on some cars. I picked 2 with different rust patterns..

That being said the rust patterns on the car you get are duplicated on both sides..
But nothing some further weathering can’t take care of…

I have a few others I am looking for that trailed Big Boy and or moved Big Boy a few times as well like 9625, 6388, 1739, 1596, 8843,and there is at least 3 other locos associated with Big Boy assists etc. but what I know at the moment.

Yes it does. Wow quite the diesel collection. I’ve seen 1 or 2 aux water tenders pulled with BB so I guess I’m going to have to get another lol
That is a beauty!!!!
thank you. It is a shark locomotive.

Oh nice yea I seen those but they only come together on HO scale from what I can see. All good I’ll get another one. I don’t see your YouTube link though? Cork is the way to go or something to soak up the sound/vibration from the tracks. Send me your link I’ll check out your channel.

I continue to be way behind on this thread, and then last weekend was the Wichita Model Train Collectors Show. So of course I partook and got even further behind.

Below is one with a story. At the show on Saturday I walked around the entire event and made notes of things I was interested in. Sunday I went back and started going through purchasing the ones I had decided I really wanted. I collect sugar and salt related railroad equipment. In my first pass I saw a Tyco Spreckels Sugar covered hopper. I had never seen one before so it was on my list. There were three problems, 1. I forgot the Spreckels part, all I could remember was that is was different and uniuqe. 2. I had neglected to write which booth I saw it in, and 3. the worst one. We were running really late and the vendors were already starting to put their merchandise away. My wife was with me and I resorted to just asking the vendors if they had a Tyco Sugar car. After a few booths my wife got the idea and we split up to cover more ground quicker. At one fellow's place he thought he had one and began rummaging through the boxes he had already packed up. I continued down the row. Eventually he found it and caught my wife. She was elated and bought it for me. OOOPs. It looked much worse than it does now. I cleaned it up. She showed it to me and I said that's the right car but I need it in a different paint scheme, keep going. So now she is walking around the event hall with this little car saying like this one only grey! One fellow told her it should have a top. Which is true. And we never found it nor a top for this one. So ended up paying $5 for this little guy. The interesting thing is there was another vendor I went back to and said, you had a Proto1000 F3 here for $30 bucks. I want it. He just gruffed at me and said its already packed, and sent me away. On the other hand this vendor with this Tyco had been almost frantic looking through his stuff to find it and make the sale. I am truely wondering if he had such a bad show that he was desparate for any money for food or even gas home?? Almost wanted to go back and just give him a $20 or so. Anyway because of that I didn't mind paying that much for this toy. My wife learned stuff too.
