Looking to get rid of all the stuff i wont use, so i got a few ?'s

So i just got done going through all my extra (crap) so i can get rid of what i know i wont use. Its mainly tyco & bachmann, with a lil life-like and some other various makes like AHM, & roco.

quite a bit of the tyco stuff is still in its original boxes (brown boxes). Also some of the bachmann & life-like are still in original boxes to.

now ill prolly list everything on the bay, including all the brass and nickle track i know i definatly wont be using, but may list the stuff on a few sites to begin with.

So my question is, do i just put it all in one massive lot, or break it down by manufacture and sell it off that way.

some of the stuff looks new some looks used with broken parts ect...

id say in all there is about 60 cars and 15 engines, and a ton of track & a bunch of dc power packs & some misc items.

thanks Mike.

PS: i know im not gonna get rich or anything off this stuff, but i figured what ever it brings will go to the purchase of new stuff that i do want.

Last year I listed about a hundred pieces of rolling stock of various kinds and makes. None of it was special. I listed all them individually for $1.99 and cabooses for .99. I sold all but about a dozen for anywhere from $1.99 to $20.00 once the bids came in. Be honest and not the flaws and some of the worst ones I did some simple weathering and people went nuts. Then list what doesnt sell all as a package deal. It worked for me. I only offered shipping by priority mail for receipt and tracking purposes. The only deal I offered was if they bought $100 worth of items I picked up the shipping.

Good Luck

Christmas is coming up and with it the best time of year for selling trains on eBay. List your stuff so that the auction ends somewhere between Dec. 25th and Jan. 1--closer to the New Year. People who get train sets go nuts buying up stuff to expand their new train sets without knowing what they are doing.

With the number of things you have I would break it up into lots of about 20 pieces engines and rolling stock. Be honest with what you have. It won't make a difference one way or the other in the frenzy.

so would i be better off say putting all the engines in a lot, box cars in a lot, ect??

I was thinking of maybe small lots of car type or brand most likely offer the in box units in a lot on there own.

I would mix the engines and the cars so that the buyers see they are getting a couple trains worth. Throw in buildings old track, anything to make it seem more complete.

I think either Chip's or Fun Valley Line's ides would work. I'd list some of the better pieces individually and and the not so good pieces in a lot. As Chip said, a lot of people who get trains sets for Christmas aren't too discriminating and they will buy an engine and soem frieght cars with some extra track and you'll get a better price than listing the strictly toy train stuff individually.

thanks for your opinions, now chip said to make it so auctions end after christmas, but i was thinking of listing stuff the day of or the day after thanksgiving. Ya think the amount the auctions would end at would be that far apart as far as ending prices go.

No, he meant list it to start on Christmas and close on January 1 or 2. You don't want an auction that des't end for over a mont - no one will look at it.

oh i ment chip said to have it end after the 25th

But i was also thinking about listing the stuff the day after thanksgiving. Just wondering if the ending price would have a chance at being hire right after christmas or before due to ppl looking for gifts?

Right now people are spending on Christmas. They are not thinking about toy trains. I think if you listed it now, with this economy, it would bomb.

I save my train stuff all year to sell after Christmas. Last year I sold over $500.
