Hi guys,

I'm looking for some advice on where/what to purchase for a specific train project. I'm looking for a locomotive, tender & a couple passenger cars for an 1860's-era train. I don't need it to run, it will be for a miniatures game only. As well, I'll need to get some track to put it on - probably about 3-4 feet of track plus the train.

Any suggestions on places/models to purchase that won't break the bank (especially as I don't need a working model)?

I almost forgot - I'm thinking S-scale as the miniatures/buildings I'm considering are 1:64...

Good luck finding anything in S Scale. If you don't mind narrow gauge, a Tyco 4-4-0, 4-6-0, or a Roundhouse Mogul can be converted to an Sn3 (or Sn42) locomotive fairly easily and I think an older issue of Narrow Gauge and Shortline Gazette had an article on converting HO Scale Roundhouse Overton passenger cars to Sn3. Here's a link to the locomotive conversions:

Contact S Helper. They are currently producing several Locos and many cars. But I'm not sure what the extent of their production is.

Another thing to look for are the older S scale kits I think from Rex Scale models. They were similar in construction to Bowser locos. They offered a nice little 2-6-0 that would be perfect for your era. These would only be found nowadays in estate sale and on the bay. They haven't been in business for many, many years.
