i definetly know we had a thread about it several month ago, but for the life of me i can't find it :(. i'm lookng for pictures of locos of various lines consisted together. or link to that thread please as it was explaining the agreements pertaining to loco use by different lines.

thanks!

Railroads also lease power from each other to meet short term needs, which gets them out of buying new power unless they really need it. In this neck of the woods I see UP and BNSF in consist together, and also UP with CP, and others along with private leasing company liveries.

Right near my house, just last week I saw a 100+ coal drag consist with 2 BNSFs and 2 UPs (SD70ACes). Oh man that was sweet looking!

thanks guys. that link is what i was looking for
maybe anyone has pictures bookmarked and handy perhaps? i spent sometime on railpictures.net and couldn't find anything explicitly on topic.

Trackage rights are great for model railroading, it means that I can buy almost any modern diesel locomotive from any Class 1 railroad, run them together on my layout, and still be prototypical !!

One reason for the home locomotive in the lead is that sometimes the home road cab signals will not work with the foreign cabs.
