Let me know if I am "on track" with this amateurs personal observations. I'd welcome the input of the experienced model railroaders. These are food for discussion at this point.

1. Track must be placed on a solid, smooth road bed. All changes in grade or curvature should gradual.
2. Vertical grade changes should be in 1% increments.
3. Always halve a straight track between reverse horizontal curves -at least 12 inches
4.Avoid steep grades with horizontal curves.
5. Avoid switch tracks on grades and curves, Best on flat straight runs.
6. Tracks must be within 2 feet of an edge so you can reach them.
 
I'd say you score 100% so far. :) The only quibble I'd have is the the entire layout shouldn't have any area more 30" deep because it's hard to reach anything if the layout is deeper than that.
