Is it me, or do most of the layout design programs have a learning curve? Is there one for those who don't have a graphic design degree?
I tried quite a few of them and finally settled on anyrail. It was the most user friendly program of the bunch. I know I didn't use it to its full potential, but my layout plan worked out perfect during construction. Just go thru the tutorials and you'll planning in no time.
Hi,
Yes they all have a learning curve.
And I've tried every one that had a "demo" version.
I settled on 3rdPlanIt. It has a extensive feature set with the learning curve to go with it.
I struggled at first until I did the tutorials and then all became clear.
I have yet to see another program that comes close.
There are "free" ones and they are definitely worth it.

I like AnyRail too, very easy to use.
I use XTrackCAD. Like any piece of software, it has a learning curve.
It comes with good tutorials to get you started. Since it is a
free program, you're not risking anything but your time to try it.

I've tried several, including XtrackCAD, and I find SCARM to be the easiest to use for layout design.
I have used (tried to use) Xtrack and SCARM. Out of the two, SCARM is by far the easiest. I haven't tried AnyRail so I can't comment on that.
