Is there an exact heigth or type of Kadee copler to use for an Athearn? My GP38-2's have Kadee #5s on them and they are too high and don't match up with any of my cars. Hence, can't use the GP38s until I solve the copler issue. I have a gage, but its broken and I have had to time to relace it since I have been building my layout.

You can also cut some shims out of .010 styrene and insert them in the coupler pocket to lower the coupler. I've found the GP-38's tend to be high regardless of the type of coupler. I've used the #24 or #27 underset shank coupers to get the proper height when shims don't work. The only difference is coupler shank length. The #24's are shorter than the #5's but give more prototypical close coupling if you have curves of 26" radius or more. The #27 is the exact same length as the #5 and more suitable for tighter radius curves.
