Ido now want to upgrade my athearn dash 9 with sound using a gn1000 soundtraxx board replacement decoder. I do not want to modify the frame to insert the speaker. Because dash9 have a pretty slim long hood I thought i must use an oval speaker. The loco is .720 wide inside. Anyone has fitted sound in a dash 9 ? wich speaker did you used ? and where did you located it ?
I used this speaker
Ligartechnologies.com in mine, and it is under the radiators in the rear of the long hood.
oh well that exactly where i thought it would fit, but did you actually had to remove the plastic reinforcement ? where did you putted holes for the sound ? i was thinking of modifying the exaust pipe by putting an hole in it
I don't remember removing any plastic. I didn't put holes for the sound, because you use the plastic shell as something for the diaphragm of the speaker to reverberate off of.
The greatest expenditure of time was looking at the wiring diagram and adding my own ditch lights, using the existing castings below the front porch and 1.5v microbulbs.
