I have only 3 cars left that don't have Kadee couplers: 2 Intermountain Corn Syrup Tank cars (19,600gal Pinnacle Series) and a Athearn Genesis Trinity 3 bay covered hopper. The couplers they came with are the Accumax ones (the scale-sized Accurail made ones). The Kadee compatibility chart says that for the IM cars, all IM Freight Cars, use the standard MCS (medium centerset shank like the #5 or #58 size), and the Trinity covered hopper uses a #78.

Well, I've got #78 couplers and they don't fit either. The coupler itself, where the round end goes around the peg in the draft gear box, is too large for the box. I have two different runs of #78s, and they're the same.

Anyone know which ones I need? Thanks.

Oh, and I forgot. The draft gear box that comes with the Kadee #78s do not line up with the holes and pin on the IM car, so I can't use them without some serious modification.

I was able to find information on converting the Athearn Genesis Trinity covered hopper:

Long story short, the old draft gear boxes have to be removed and replaced with Kadee ones for the conversion to work. Same for the Intermountain.

i find that in almost all cases, just removing the cast on box and using the Kadees' box works a bunch better. It isn't too hard once you do it a few times.
