I knew better, but.....

Did it any way. I went to one of the LHS's to get a book, and some detail parts for my Blue Box GP-35. Well this one did not have the detail parts but they did have a really nice RTR Athearn GP-35. I looked at it and then walked around, picked up a few packs of sectional track, went back to look at the GP-35 again, looked for a kit to build, back and forth, back and forth.

So now i have a new GP-35 and several packs of track. It was like a moth to a flame. It just drew me in and away I went.

So, any one know if a sound decoder will fit in the GP-35?

In comparing it to the old Blue Box, not even close. So much better detail, just a lot better product. Yet, it is 5 times what I paid for my old Blue Box.

Thanks. Now I just need to figure out how to down size my fingers so I do not break things as I install it. :)

These have a way of multiplying when I least expect it.

By blvdbuzzard:

The allure of a new loco is almost as bad as a woman.:D

A new loco is yours for as long as you want it, women are far more fickle (and more expensive)

And if only they needed a decoder so we could hear them.

This was my most recent purchase I could not resist. An N scale intermountain FP-7. You just don't see these O.N. very often.......so when it appeared on M.B. Klein I snapped it up immediately. Not cheap at $89 plus shipping..(No decoder). So far my most expensive engine. Runs nice and quiet.

I've got one of those Athearn RTR DCC ready GP35's. I put it's detail as being just 1 step down from the Genesis's. Put some wipers on it and you'd be there.

As far as paying more than you would like for a particular model. What's price if you know it's rare and you'll be lucky to find another.

1 buyer on US ebay just paid $311 and $265 to win 2 BLI Alco RSD-15's (SP) that had had decoders fitted (listed as new) As far as I'm aware BLI have only recently announced these as going to be available in Paragon 2. When I bought my 2 Blueline's with DC sound a couple of years or so ago I paid $US89+post. This buyer was obviously determined, but then so were his opponents.

I had been shopping on line and most of the places were out of stock on these. They had other road names, but not the SP. So I saw they had one and only one. I could not resist the pull of the new loco!!!

Honest, it followed me home.

I am drawn to the SP GP-35's. Not sure why, I also really like the GP-38's. But I am not fond of the SD40 or 50's. I guess it is the 2 axle trucks.

I am still amazed at the level of detail over the old blue box engines. While the cabinet was open I was looking at a Union Pac Sd70 or something like that. It was the Genesis and was going for $279.99 with sound installed. It had nice wipers, air deflectors, and so much detail. It is a very nice looking engine.

I have 5 SP GP-35 Blue Boxes. I am going to pick up some detail parts and try my hand at up grading the looks. If I really screw it up, I am out $20.00.

Well I do agree women need some decoder and some really good CV codes.

So now I "HAVE TO" setup a test layout this weekend. I NEED to try out the new track and the new engine. Sound good to me right!!

HAHA, well if it followed you home you musta had some food or at least a cookie (doggie treat perhaps???) in your pocket...yes Ill admit some have even followed me home too (oops) and its funny how these things just suddenly multiply with out warning.....

honest they just got together and multiplied I think they have babies...

I learned a while ago, I always leave a light on. When I turn out the light, my 2 loco's are now 3, then 5 and so on. it is just like rabbits. The multiple in the dark.
