I would appreciate some suggestions and/or pictures of how to create a smooth transition of a mainline with pretty much new looking ties/rail etc., not weathered into a spur track that is very weathered.

I recently bought a piece of scenery that came with a base and a section of very weathered track that looks fantastic, I'd like to put this in off of a turnout on my main line, I'd like to try to create a transition in the track that doesn't look so abrupt.

I've attached a picture, I'm not sure of the exact location this will be in the section I'm adding, I just put it there for reference for now.

Match the weathering; no need to get exacct because werathered things are not eveningly weatthered. Just play with it; start with the ties, then blend everything else.

I recently built a section where I had a similar situation: The newly updated track and the old, rarely used siding. This is just what I did and not the "right" way to do it, and certainly not the only way to do it. Just an example, but might give you some ideas.

To start with, the main line has nice, new, clean ballast, and the siding older, darker stuff.

When I came through and scenic 'ed everything, the siding track got a bit heavier grass load, including moss/grass on some of the ties.

I haven't even touched true weathering yet, so I could still make this track look a lot worse if I wanted to.
