How many paint schemes did the Providence and Worcester have?

OK, I am confused. as some may have seen I want to do a set of engines in all the paint schemes the P&W had that were "offical" schemes. Not ones that engines were in when they got them. (does that make sense?) Anyway I thought I knew of four.

2 http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/locoPicture.aspx?id=31063

4 http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=242363

Also the GP9s had the same scheme as the 2010 with a slight decal placement difference.

But tonight I found this.

As I sit here and scratch my head, where there any others I am missing?

Nate,

So do you also feel they had 5 different schemes?

Yeah I noticed that to with the nose decal. Maybe a short person like me was applying some of them.

Yes Kevin,

I believe all theyve had was 5 schemes haha...seems like someone couldnt make up their minds. The photos you showed in the first thread were photos of ALL the paints schemes I've ever seen P&W locomotives in. And as far as i know, theyve never had a special paint scheme or anything that was just for a test so...I believe you got them all.

Thanks for the imput Nate. hmmmm. I had it all planned to have all my GP38s get the special paint. Now that I found this fifth one, I quess a 40-2 will have to have a special scheme.
So far I have the current scheme on #2008 that Josh (jbaakko) did, he is currently doing #2006 in the mostly orange scheme of the 1980s. I bought a custom painted #2010 in the scheme from the picture LONG befoe anyone started to produce P&W. I happened to find it at my local shop. The last 38-2 a need for the fleet is #2011 and I am going to have that one done in the RS-3 scheme. So Now i guess when I get to the 40-2 I will have to have #3001 done in that last scheme I recently found. Kevin

Nice Kevin! Once you get them all done, you should posts pics of them. Id love to see some of P&Ws more modern power in the old schemes. Great idea you have there. Good luck with it all too, and glad I could help.

Nate, I certainly will post pics. When I first had Josh do the 2008, I started to think that while having as many P&W as I could get, or in this case afford to have custom done was good, I wanted a little color on the layout as well. When I get a chance, I will do a MS paint rendition of the latest scheme and post it here.

Nice

Sweet! looking forward to more Pics.
I like P&W, I was born in Providence and didn't know they had so many paint schemes.
I'd like to model a few someday. Ive only seen the last scheme in ready made shells.

Cheers,
Richard Fitzgerald

Yeh Ive seen some nice P&W stuff on ebay occasionally.
Too many lines I'd like to model, SD&Az, UP, SP, P&W, B&M, occasionally though about the old Boston trollies PCC light rail? from the 60's or the MTA. LOL or Accella or....Hershey...or..

Richard,

I believe it was Atlas that also made the RS-3.

Here are some pics of the 3001 for detail purposes. Luckily the NECR leased the unit for a little while and I took some pics when I had it in my train.

ah yes, Josh did an amzing job on the 2008 for you!

Good luck Kevin,

Great shots Mark! Im actually really glad you took these, becuase Ive noticed the little "doo-dads" and what not on the top of the GP's and never knew what they were for, do you know what they are?

Nate

Nate, I believe and Mark Please correct me if I am wrong, but I think one is an antennas and the other GPS. The longer one is the antenna? and the round one next to the horn is gps. I think.

The small can antenna is generally the crew radio. The long Sinclair antenna is general a EOT receiver, to allow the crew to receive signals from the EOT device.

Sometimes the uses are slightly different, and sometimes units have multiples of each.
