With the holiday season fast approaching, I decided to get started on building a Polar Express in HO scale. Lionels is nice but isnt to scale, the just anounced scale version needs one to be rich or hit the lottery to afford the whole set. I found a PFM brass NKP Berkshire at the show for $100, it needs a bit of TLC but nothing bad, its painted basic black and has had the front end modifed to already represent a PM Berkshire. I can do the decals from a sheet of Railroad Roman in delux (gold leaf) from Microscale. I also picked up a complete Rivarossi Heavyweight train complete with Central Valley sprung trucks on them. I cant find a decent bluish grey paint so I am going with just a medium grey and wine red for the strip. Once again I will have to hand letter each coach unless someone here can print a sheet of decals in gold for the whole train, that would be nice! I will get some pics of the Berk once i get it back together. Cheers Mike and Michele T
Here are some teaser pics of the Polar Express under construction. PFM brass Berkshire, RPO/Baggage car, Pullman, Diner, Coach and Coach. The observation car is in the shops getting the specal rounded end scratch built and is coming along nicely. Decals shipped out today, so maybe by the end of the week, I can have it decaled up. Enjoy the pics of my progress. Mike
Are the passenger cars brass too? I would have sworn they were old Roundhouse because of the window arrangement and underbody detail. Nice looking train no matter who made what.
The cars are all old Rivarossi models with Central valley sprung trucks. I will knock down the shine on the engine once I get the decals put on. For now the whole train is shiny. Mike
