Hi everyone,
My name is Jim and I'm 45 years old. I've been a Model Railroader for 33 years. I started out in HO scale and modeled in that for 20 years and also got involved in N scale at the same time for 10 of those years. When my son was small we decided to get involved with Lionel Railroading. Although he eventually lost interest I fell in love with it and after a five year hiatus from the hobby I came back to Model Railroading as a 3 rail O guage fan.
After recently abondoning a larger layout. My current project is a simple O guage switching shelf layout that is 15 inches wide and 10 1/2 feet long called the Pearl Valley Railroad (named after my wife). This size is more managable for me at the moment and I can focus on modeling small details, buildings, scenery etc. The Model Railroad has an emphisis more on modeling a rail scene rather than serious train operation. It's not built to any modular specifications though. Switching manuevers are basic. It is rebuilt using much of what I already had from the larger layout. Operation is also basic and conventional but could be expanded upon in the future. It's coming along great and I'm enjoying the hobby more than ever.
