I thought they had been lost forever, but it turned out my BOXED TRAIN SET was at my moms.

bought it YEARS ago, stored it, moved, lost it, found it.

so. I have an engine. I have some cars. I have some track. cars have a CN logo on them.

now. to get started.

is there anything I need to do before I set my engine on the track, and start tootling around with it? oil it? prepare it? condition it? its been sitting in a box for probably 10 or more years.

I even had little tiny lilliputians to paint. whats the best paint?

this is all very exciting. its like Christmas has come a little early.

Can you post some pictures?
Also what brand is the set and how often did you lose it before it was packed away?
Did you maintain it before it got packed up?

Going off the information given, i'd say take the shell of the locomotive, inspect the gear in the drive, put a little bit of oil on the gears, set up a test loop, and see how it goes.

Remember to start slow though, and easily work your way up in speed from there. I would keep it running for at least 30 minutes to an hour, and if you hear any noise that you feel is bad, don't be afriad to stop the train and check it out. Remember though, it will most likely sound loud in the beginning, but it should sound a bit quieter towards the end.

X2 on what matt said.

with the rails, a bright boy or fine grit sand paper to the tops of the rails to ensure good flow of electricity from the rails to the engine and back

how often did I lose it? ohhh.....
two...three times?

how often did i USE it? never. It MAY have been used once by my mom and then packed up again.

i'll get some pics later today.
thanks, this is useful info. I can'at wait to get it set up.

sorry, i meant how often did you use it before you lost it
and youve already answered that question

even if its only been used once, its still sat for 10 years, so i would definately give it a good once over, inspect everything and make sure everything is in good running order.

Is it still sealed in the package? If so, post some pictures ASAP, since some older set still sealed have some value and you can sell it and get some better engines and cars with the money.

not sealed, no. I don't have it front of me, it might be one of those Presidents Choice sets they were selling a few {well, a LOT} of years ago.

You don't have it in front of you.... you're not hinting that you've lost it again, are you?
Nyuk nyuk!

here's whats in the box.

sorry, its been busy, I'm getting ready for the indoor horse show circuit, I have 14 of my own, and a bunch of students to prep. :D

GEEEEZ , i had the exactly SAME set, it was my first ho scale train (had a G scale before) my loco was in CN paint, some of the cars survived and i still use them, BTW the loco wasnt a good runner, it only had front power pickup and rear drive only (with tracktion tire). The motor worn out after a year.
We had insane fun with this kit (mostly killing the little people--hit by a train, outch :D).

sick, you are SICK I tell you.

{you should see the things I did to my barbie doll that some poor misguided soul gave me for my eigth birthday. I SAID I wanted a PONY. } :D :D :D

I bet if I had her now, she'ld be bound and gagged and laid on the track in front of a steam loco.

oops. did I say that? hahaha snork.

Something's not right about that set. The PC sets were never issued in Bachmann labeled boxes and the PC sets never had Bachmann E-Z track. All the locomotives were made by AHM (Mehano) of Slovenia. The engine matches the SD-35 in the set issued in 1992 if the number is 5008. Otherwise, it looks like a standard Bachmann set but of a much later issue. I'm confused.

great. now I have to go looking for a Snidely Whiplash liliputian. :D :D

Or a Mister Bill? Or a Kenny? Oh this could go on.....

Jim the differance could be a one of those Canadian things?
I mean I'm now (today) 52 but in American years I'm only 38!
