Not sure what you're asking ... the top one is a Wye turnout, and the bottom one is a Left-hand (LH) curved turnout. Many manufacturers and hobbiest will use the term "switch" synonymously with "turnout."
Ian is correct. The term 'turnout' references to a section of track where the train can "turn out" from the line it's on. It became popular usage to avoid confusion with electrical switches which are often more common in model railroading than track switches.
