My layout is going to be mostly handlaid track. In my experimental layout (http://trains.calldei.com/?page_id=35) I had the whole thing on plywood, then used Midwest bevled cork and handlaid on top of that. It seems to work fine (even though I read some people suggest the ties may pull out of the cork, so far so good).

Now I'm considering some sections of my new layout to be on foam so I can carve out landscaping close to the tracks. In some of the discussions on http://www.handlaidtrack.com/ Tim shows how he does this, he uses a think wood subroadbed on top of foam (no cork). I still like the look of the beveled cork but am open to suggestions. Any suggestions on what works (or doesnt) if you try to handlay track on top of a foam subroadbed ? Surely I cant nail right into the foam so *something* has to go between the foam and the ties. Will the same cork work or do I need something else like Tim uses (wood?)

Any ideas welcome !
