Hi, Merry Christmas. We have friends and family coming for Holiday dinners tonight the 23rd and tomorrow Christmas Eve. Normal layout power is DCC with 3 ProtoThrottles. I have found at previous dinners some folks like to run but the PT is too complicated. So I pulled the DCC set up and we will run DC. So out came the test section of bench track. Pulled the plug and we are running on DC and I can’t remember the last time running on DC. Even testing the layout while track building was with DCC.

Now over to the layout. I need to hook up the transformer to the power board. Run some tests, clean track, remove the good rolling stock and run trains.

Yes, I would bet a good chunk of cash somebody tonight after drinking too many will ask me how much do I have in trains. My answer, “I’ve never tracked it, ask Terry, she does!

Counting the train shed that I built, I have way more than I will tell my wife. She thinks that it is about a third of what I actually have invested. I just tell her that she's close!

I learned long ago don’t hide things from Terry. Now I am very fortunate that my SS is my play money. She is a financial wiz and I have often wondered why she wasn’t an investment advisor. My credit card is set up so every payment I make automatically gets placed in right accounting category. All my hobby purchases are made via PayPal unless I walk into a hobby shop.

it is Christmas, Merry Christmas

Perhaps I worded that a bit wrong, but I don't hide, she just doesn't ask or care how much is there. As long as her and the family came first, it's never been an issue. She did note that the train shed itself cost $20K as the bills came through.

I didn’t think you were. I often wonder though when I see on a Sale site the words, selling as a need to pay some bills. Did the spousal unit find out he purchased 5 new ST locomotives on the credit card.

How long have you had the train shed. Based on that price I am guessing 8-9 years!

I'm lucky too in that Cathy never complains about my model railroading hobby or other interests that I've had in our 47 years of marriage. The only time she has said anything was when I purchased three drones and and two of them have never been flown.

I think that since I worked and she stayed at home most of those years of marriage she knows she has been lucky.

I have three new Rapido locomotives down in the train room and two Scale Trains locomotives on order and she doesn't seem to care too much. She loves to go to Swap Meets and Shows and likes to find me items like Woodland Scenery people!!!

I keep her happy with a few trips to casinos in the state and adjoining states, trips to Arizona along with some jewelry items.

It is always great to have supportive spouses. Congrats.

Awesome weathering job! You've even got that arc-shaped paint scuff like a number of those wide cabs seem to have.

I used to live along the former IC main in Illinois and remember seeing many of those locomotives after the CN takeover. Here's a picture I took in 2007 of one of their SD50F's banging across the diamond at Tolono.
