New N gauge guy
Hobby shop called yesterday and had my Bachmann MDT Plymouth in!

I think I'm going to love this one. This tiny little fart weighs almost as much as my GP40 (also a cheap Bachmann). It pulls as hard too!
Much quieter and smoother than my GP40.

It performs perfectly on my 9.75" radius curves and only stalled a couple times on my switches.

One downside it is very picky about uneven track joints. If one rail is lower than the other it will hesitate and if that bad joint is on a corner it will derail.
After 20 minutes tuning my newbie track work and it was running strong and smooth all over my layout.

Also, it came with two sets of couplers. The standard ones (can't think of the name) I thought it would have and a little one piece knuckle coupler. Not a big deal to me but I thought you guys might like to know.

I too, am impressed by that little Bachman Plymouth. In hunting around, I ran across this site: http://www.locoworks.spillage.net where they claim to be able to install a decoder in it. If you're considering DCC at some point, they might be a good place to go (unless you have a machine shop and the requisite skills). :D

Glad to hear the MDT has done well for you, PM. They must have done a major upgrade to the mechanism since the last one I saw. It sounds like they still don't like rough track but it's a good test unit to smooth out those bumpy spots.

Tim, that must be a major job shoehorning a DCC decoder into one of those in N scale.

One other thing I noticed.
It seems slower than my GP, I guess cause it's smoother and quieter, but it actually caught up to the GP when I put them on the same track.
It cuts in about 15% lower on my control though so it will go slower and makes a better switcher.

I am waiting on a new SD7 PRR from Broadway Limited with sound. I just won off eBay Friday. (twiddling thumbs!) It will be our clubs first diesel with sound. All we have now is a Broadway M1 and several Spectrum steamers. And 2 diesels and 3 steamers with no sound that we don't move because we're spoiled now....LOL
