Congrats on the new job Chad. I am sure you will like working on a RR. It may be hard work but what makes it easier is if you like what you are doing. I have had some cush jobs and was not happy and other jobs that I worked my tail off and was overjoyed because I was very happy on doing them.

Congrats on the new job! Did you have prior experience on a railroad? Or are they training you for the position?

I would rather see the country riding in a big locomotive than setting in front of a computer all day.

Hey cool Chad, congrats!
I used to know some of the people there, I'm sure they've retired by now.
Of course we'll expect some pics in time, once you're settled in.

So those of you who are on here, who work for the railroad, What can I expect with this new job? I know 10-12 hour days sometimes and being on call 24/7 but anything else? Good or bad.

Chad

Well you have it right about the on call thing, not that bad really depending on how you look at it. You're going to get a workout trudging thru the snow down the length of the train at times... maybe shoveling out throw rods etc.
Never turn your back on a moving train or step on the rails, never walk around a railcar less than ten feet from it or go in to do up your lines until the engineer acknowleges an absolute stop and the slack is at rest.
There's way more to it of course but they'll show you.
If you're like me then you'll be happy rain or shine just being on the railway!
I guess you'll also have to change your signature here to include the DM&E! :)

Congrats on the new job.

I hope you love working on a real RR.
If ya love what you do, and love doing it you should love it!;)
