First I want to thank you all for your comments and suggestions.
However, the N-scale Fruit Trees had an issue when I took off the round bases. The trees were too short to insert in the grass.
After talking to Joe B., I experimented and came up with the following.
I cut tips off toothpicks and 3/32” shrink tubing about 1” long.
I slid the tubing over the trunk up to the braches, inserted the toothpick in the other end of the shrink tubing.
I then added a straight pin for stiffing and painted the bases brown.
The goal is to insert the assembly into the grass at the desired depth.
I will then fluff the tree branches to cover the top of the tubing.
