I wouldn't worry to much about the "nazi" comment it is in current vernacular now and simply means someone who is over zealous about a particular subject or event.

Thanks Mike. I'm starting my fourth year of working on the "new" JJJ&E in March. About 85 % of the basic scenery is completed. Now I have to work on the fine detailing.
I built this framework from cheap 1" x 3" x 8' pine to put my layout platform (door) on top of. Used minwax old english stain on it. It gives white pine a real nice antique looking finish. Just one even coat and leave it. I don't wipe it off. Waiting for it to dry a little more.
Thanks R.T.. I'm happy it's done....now I can move on to ground cover. I want to cover the whole platform with green, tan, and light brown colored foam granules or whatever like that works best. I don't want to use fabric or a mat. Then weather the track rail with brown and black spray paint.
Is this a 32x80 door or a 36x80? I ask because i'm fixing to start mine finally and i've decided to get a 4x8 peice of plywood and cut it down to 3' x 8'. I figure 36" x 96" is a pretty good starting point for a layout for what i want to do. Your layout looks great so far so i should be in good shape if so!
Hi Clay, the door is a 36" x 80". I'm liking how it looks now all together. Would be nice to build two more modules eventually and have a big U-shaped setup.....but I'm real happy to have just this one.
Thanks, I need to move soon so haven't done much work lately except added a few switches. After the move is done I plan to triple the size of it, get rid of the door, and use 5/16" plywood instead.
I think you are refering to the stain I used. It's minwax english chestnut. The color is a deep rich antique brown if you put on one good coat....and don't wipe it off. It could be done in steps too. Decided I liked that color after using it on some bare wooden crates I bought at a hardware store.
