I have been making some progress on my extension room layout build. The room is 10'x10'. There will be a single track run though a hole in the wall, for access into the new room.
The plan.
Staging is at the bottom. On the right side is a 4 track train shed and station. And the left side will be an Oil Refinery.
Some progress photos....
Benchwork completed...
Section of the foam installed and painted.
Hole in the wall cut out.
Turnout in the main layout room installed. There is a 2% grade in the main room, that leads into the new room.
Oil Refinery backdrop is completed. This is a vinyl paper that has an adhesive backing, it was installed on 1/8" mdf paneling. The paneling was attached to the wall using double sided tape.
I'll keep updating this thread as I make more progress.
Yes that is correct, it will just be used to turn locos around. Primarily for incoming passenger trains. Will come into the room, using the 4 outside tracks. Using the slip switches to escape, come back up to the turntable, then to the servicing facility. And finally back into the station. Passenger cars such as rear observation, will be turned by hand.
The backdrops I created myself. I shot all the panorama photos using my digital camera and a tripod. Since I'm not a photoshop expert, I had someone stitch them for me. And also cropped out some of the bottom/foreground, to keep it in scale.
Then I had them printed on a professional printer. The paper is vinyl with an adhesive backing. It's kind of expensive.
The Oil Refinery is 22" x 6'. The residential area, was split up into two prints. One is 22" x 9' and the second is 22" x 10'.
Thanks Michael... I was afraid that you would answer just as you did! I have not seen anything close to this quality that is available commerically. So did you adhere it to the wall or a piece of masonite (or other material)?
