Brass is it so far, and yep, they're hard to find and will break you wallet when you do find them. There were very few built in the real world, so they're not a good candidate for a plastic model. Too narrow of an appeal. The manufacturers like to know they'll sell plenty of models before they cut dies!
Norman, if that set is still in stock since being listed almost eight years ago, I guess it shows the relatively popularity of the E-2. There's also a reason there's no price listed - I'm pretty sure you'll need a second mortgage on the house to afford it.
Well Jim,
You might be right - my only reference is, that the item is shown as 'in-stock' and the price is listed as $510.00 (upper right corner).
I'd have been interested in it if I would not own a painted E-2AB set already.
I really like that bulbous nose....

I won't claim to be a diesel expert or a UP expert. My interests lay more towards steam on the SP, but I do like the "City of Los Angeles" & "City of San Francisco" trains which were jointly operated by the UP/SP/and C&NW. I believe that the only E-2s built were the sets to power the City trains. They were a 1930's design and pretty much handbuilt, so there isn't exactly a huge market for models of them, unless you are putting together an early "City" train. If you are, get ready, because the correct cars are only available in brass, and infrequently appear in those shops that handle brass cars, and of course, e-Bay. It was a gorgeous train though. The Armour Yellow & Brown paint scheme is sharp!
