Elgin Joliet and Eastern only had one SP1500 on their roster and this stood out from the rest because it was once a Southern Pacific locomotive that the J removed the extra SP style lighting. It was also a unique switcher on the J as it was the only switcher to be equipped with ditch lights both at the front and rear, a common thing for the J’s fleet of SD38-3s but rare on the switchers.

This model started off as an undecorated Athearn SW1500 Southern Pacific style. The first step to change this in to Elgin Joliet and Eastern #460 was to remove the extra lights commonly found on SP locomotives and replace them with a piece of styrene cut to fit the void. Having the lights offset to the right add to the uniqueness of this locomotive. Other details added to this engine are:
Grab Irons
MU hoses
Coupler lift bar
MU stand
Ditch lights
drop step
Horn
dual beacons
All weather window

The locomotive needed a custom paint mixed to match the prototype as this shade of green was a bit darker the the other green switchers on the EJ&E. Decaling was intensive as there was a lot of 3M reflective striping used on the prototype for safety.

This model is for sale. PM for more info.
