Double Pinwheel Helix

Yes my layout in our previous house used this technique, it’s actually easy to make with a mitre saw and it does conserve plywood.
I don’t know why he refers to it as a double pinwheel tho?

The answer is in the section “What’s a Double Pinwheel Helix?”. Hope that helps.
Unfortunately I'm completely lost with the math...

They are making it too hard. A standard pinwheel has four blades, this has the equivalent of 8 that are overlapping instead of "directly on top" of one another. So two ways that it is a "double".
