I am ashamed to say so but today I did.

After having most of mine stored away for several years I took 2 out today to lub and clean the wheels before running, and couldn't recall the type.

I'll research and find out, but do any of you write the type # on it anywhere? Maybe inside the shell or on the bottom with a fine permament marker?

The 2 in question are Life-like, could be Proto-2000's, not sure. I bought them in the mid 90's, L&N, with blue/cream paint scheme. They have the air cylinders on top, #'s 509 and 514.

I know many of you know them all, but I am still learning--and trying to remember!

Wish I had a digital camera, they have 4 axles, high hood, and walkways very much like a GP-9.

Compared to my Atlas GP-9, the Atlas has the single horns on the side, Life-like has them on top, larger fans on the Life-like, plus a couple of vents on the steam generator that the Atlas doesn't have.

Other then that, doesn't appear to be any different.

I went through my manuals and turns out my Atlas "GP-9" is actually a GP-7.

As to the mystery locos, they are GP-7's II 3rd release, made by Lifelike and they are of the Proto-2000 series, confirmed by the clunk-clunk of broken drive gears.

I'm going to have to order some more drive gears, thought I had bought enough.

Thanks for your help.
