hey uys i have a question, hopefully someone can help. i have a few athearn rtr and blue box GP38-2/GP60's i'm replacing the big cab bulb with actual headlights and im also adding ditch lights. im using athearn genesis light bulbs, engines are straights DC power. this is my first time trying to replace these big cab bilbs, my question is can i wire these athearn genesis bulbs direct to the engine or do i need a component board to keep the bulbs from buring out? another question, where do i solder the bulbs to? i have no clue where they would need to be wired to. hopefully someone can help me with this. thanks in advance

IIRC, Athearn Genesis bulbs are 1.5 volts so if you're gonna run them on DC, you definitely need at least a resistor inline with each bulb. If you want constant bulb intensity, then a constant lighting circuit would be needed. Look at Circuitrons products for constant lighting. They may also have a lighting circuit for the ditch lights.
