deleted rant - who cares

I read it and I care!:) That's just plain frustrating to buy something and not have the manufacturer stand behind it.
That happened to me with a brand-new ConCor N scale Big Boy. Paid $300 for it, took it home, the motor went up in smoke 2 seconds after I put it on the track. I called ConCor, and was told. "We quit making that, we don't have any parts for it. We don't have a God-D****d museum here!" and hung up on me.
That was in 1999, I have sold every piece of ConCor stuff I own, and have never bought another item of theirs. I also make sure I tell people about it every chance I get.
I also just had that happen in HO, with a Proto E6 and a defective sound decoder and cracked axle gears. "We don't have parts for those, take it back to the hobby shop where you bought it for a refund". At least that had the virtue of being 8 years old.

Gee, maybe I would have cared.

I've been know to pitch a rant from time to time.

MAybe I would have learned somehting or shared somehting relevent, maybe even played Devil's advocate. WHo knows? but now I don't know.

Either that or you should switch to decaf?
:)

DING DING DING !!! We have a winner :)

I took it to their "social media" site where it belongs, my railroad wishes to stay in happytown with the grandkids and labs. It's a learning experience and I'm at least starting to lose my fear of tearing into these things. I even dorked my first decoder yesterday...

The good news is, I just acquired 100 pieces of Atlas 9" straight and 80 22" curves for dirt so I got that going for me.

Did I mention I finally got my 5 car maxi put together without trashing the pins with the screws only to find I'm short one bolster in the kit? I switched to hot chocolate...

Having come in after the rant was deleted...I understand if you think we wouldn't care.

That said, I did take the freeway home (ok it wasn't my home but to a place we were picking up a desk for my son) and kind of forgot the frustration at getting stuck in traffic again. That comment gave me a laugh as well.

I avoid big cities all together, I have an '07 Sahara, it has a mini van motor and handles like a ...Jeep, best to avoid freeways and set the cruise at 55.

I too saw this thread after it had been deleted, but I think I get the gist..
You really should 'put it out there' if you have a particularly bad experience with a manufacturer..

I remember a few years ago a .38 bullet manufacturer (they prob made others as well) who's name escapes me for now made a particularly bad batch of bullets that kept tumbling when fired & when told about it the company basically said tuff, were not taking returns. All the retailers cancelled their orders & the company subsequently went out of business near enough overnight, it only took a couple of months & they were gone because they thought they were above everyone else just because they were the manufacturer.. But you know what, there's plenty of others out there that will fill the gaps left behind..

It really is best to vote with your wallet & to let others know as well of those companies that try to mug off the hard working customer with sub-standard products...

can someone go to Athearns Facebook page and see if they can see the post I made last night about their product, it seems to have disappeared mysteriously, I can view it when logged into my personal account, but doesn't show up when I go there under a business account even though I can see posts by others.

Found this from a man named Jeff Bever and was posted yesterday:

"I have to say Athearn is one of the best in customer satisfaction, I call for a missing part and it shows up a few days later. Your the best!!"

Nope, all my posts are publicly viewable, they've prevented it from being publicly viewable on purpose, very dishonest behavior in my opinion.

I reposted it, it's publicly viewable as of 11:01AM CST

If yours is the post about the 3 locomotives, it is viewable by selecting "everyone-most recent".
And yes, they have a reputation for deleting negative comments.

Yep, and you can actually add a fourth, an AC440 purchased two weeks ago, now in pieces on the table for it's second relube. I must just have a nack for picking the bad engines right off the shelf, have not had this problem with any other make, and not even any of my blue box kits have had this kind of problem and they sat on a shelf for a decade or more before i bought them.

I'd look, but as an IT professional for over 25 years, I stay out of "social Media" sites. I get tired of working with computers at work and being on call all the time, so I don't want to spend my much needed time off working with them at home...so no Facebook, no Twitter, no LinkedIn, etc. My wife doesn't understand why on my no call weekends, I don't want to carry my cellphone, which makes calls only. no internet, camera, etc. It supposedly can send text messages, but I'd rather not be "That" in contact...LOL

I retired from IT because I got tired of silly people asking questions that demanded an explanation you knew they wouldn't understand and then got mad at you for not being to understand it. That and interactive barney...

But FB is where my widely dispersed family is and I actually get some practical value out of it usually..

I can see both your posts, yesterdays and todays. I don't imagine they would remove them unless you got abusive or foul mouthed, but you never know. Some FB sites are heavily moderated.

Too bad you're having problems. I have bought the U-50, the GP-7's, the FP-7's, the MP-15, the SW-1500 RTR's, and a bunch of F units. Not a problem in the bunch with the exception of a broken sunshade on the FP-7, which I was able to fix myself. I hate that stupid wooden board method they use on some of their models!

As for warranty, each company can handle it however they please. There may not be enough models to swap you out new for old, since many manufacturers are buying only enough to fill orders plus a few extra. This did happen with a friend's GPs. Broken footboards. The models were sold out, so all they could do was offer to fix them.

Unfortunately, Athearn isn't the only manufacturer with these QC issues. Just about every manufacturer has been hit with them at some point.
