I'm currently in the planning and development stages of my layout, but I want to include working grade crossing gates in a few places. I plan on running Digitrax DCC on the layout. I was going to include detection just for the crossings, I don't want to get into all of the crazy automatic signaling. I don't want to use any optical sensors for this project because they look dumb, and out of place. I'm told that you can use a BD4 occupancy detector connected to a DS64 stationary decoder to both actuate the gate arms with slow motion switch machines, and have the flashing lights. The only problem I face is: how to wire it all up. The ONLY wiring diagrams I can find are either lacking in exact detail, or want you to create elaborate switching and programming circuits because the example crossing is in the middle of a yard. If someone could help me with a simple diagram of the wiring for a single track, single detection zone, grade crossing, I would be overjoyed.:D
