Welcome! I'm over on the other side in Keller. I am a founding member of the North Texas Free-mo group. While Free-mo might not be your interest we have a large group of members who also belong to some of the local clubs and some who have home layouts. We are hosting our first Free-mo setup September 5th at the South Oaks Baptist Church in Arlington. It is an open event and "outsiders" are encouraged to attend. Our web page is http://www.trainweb.org/northtexfreemo/

I model the Rock Island at shutdown but we have a large following of modern modelers. In fact I believe we currently have more bethgons then we have track!

Check us out if you're interested and welcome to the forum.

Howdy. I live about 70 miles south of you and am completely new at this hobby.

I gots a question; uh, what does Free-mo mean. Module?

Everything you wanted to know about Free-Mo at http://www.free-mo.org/. It's basically a set of standards that lets you build small modules but them link them up to other guy's modules so you can make larger layouts for clubs or shows.

As usual Jim is spot on. He already gave you the link to the Free-mo page so I'll give you the links to our pages. North Texas Free-mo's web page is here http://www.trainweb.org/northtexfreemo/ and our yahoo! group is here http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NorthTexasFreemo/

Next Saturday, September 5, we are setting our modules up for the first time. We have nine modules scheduled to attend from NTX Free-mo, Oklahoma Free-mo, and HOT Free-mo (Heart of Texas, Temple) comprising 90 feet of mainline. This is pretty small for a Free-mo set up but we only began 10 months ago so it's a pretty good start for us.

If you are available next Saturday and feel like a road trip I invite you to come up and check things out. Doors will be open from 0900 to 1600 and the directions are located on our TrainWeb home page. There is no admission fee.
