I bought two New Atlas Dash 8 40CW's with digitrax decoders and I have the Zephyr. I want to MU them but, one runs faster, one takes more throttle to get moving. I checked all CV values (I think) are default settings, and i tried speed step programming, but relatively new at this. Could it be the engines just dont run the same or the programming? Ifs it the engines they are gona be sold and Im sticking with Kato. I dont seem to have problems with those. THANKS.

In my limited experience, few locomotives, even those of the same manufacturer and type, will run at the same speeds and the same throttle settings. You will probably need to set up speed tables on each one to match them up. The way I have seen it done is to put them on the track near each other like they will be in the MU but don't actually connect them. Pick which one you want to leave as standard, the faster one or the slower one. You'll program the other one.

Put them in consist on the throttle and start them up. If the other one is too slow, adjust its speed table to speed it up. If it is too fast, use the speed table to slow it down. Once they are running together at the same speeds, maintaining a consistent distance apart, you are done and can couple them together. Takes some trial and error but it's not really hard.

Thanks for the help. Should I mess with the acceleration rate or the speed tables. I know the default setting for the speed step but not sure how to adjust the speed I want. Am I using cv 29 or Cv 3?
