Ok, so the other day I got out my Lionel set for my niece and I to play with. I have two 4-4-2 Atlantic engines, one C&O and one NKP. The C&O was purchased for me several years ago but the NKP was my grandfather's set. It is old, I'm not sure how old but the decals on the side are wearing off. I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get replacement decals for this engine. I would really like to make it look like new again but have no idea where to get the parts!!! Also, I will be starting a layout with this set for my niece so I was wondering if anyone has any advice for laying out Lionel trains, track radius or anything else like that. Is cork roadbed typically used for Lionel track? The track I have is the old three rail stuff that looks like steel tubes, the stuff w/ three brown ties on it? Sorry, this post turned out to be longer than I originally thought!!! Thanks guys!!!
The three-rail Lionel track is pretty cheap, but I've been happy when I replaced mine with Fast Track. It looks better, and is easier to maintain electrical conductivity.
If you didn't immediately do a layout, you could put this (Fast Track) on the floor and not worry about carpet fibers and dust being sucked up into the mechanism.
As for decals, I don't know of any, but if you measure out the font sizes, you could probably find something that would work. Of course, if you're going to repaint or decal your locomotive, you're not necessarily limited to using the same roadname.
Thanks. I thought the same thing about re-decaling the locomotive but I don't really want to change the road name for two reasons. One, the train is very sentimental to me and two I have several pieces of NKP rolling stock but not much else, just some scattered stuff like a Green Giant boxcar, a Gulf tanker, and a few other things. I think though I have decided against building a layout with this stuff right now due to time and space constraints. Besides, I like my HO
