Good morning.
I hope you are having a pleasant Memorial Day weekend.
I have some older Pullmans, 90'. Made of wood and cardboard.
I fitted Kadee's to them #27's, the first problem was that they were about 1/8" to high. I solved this by making a small shim out of wood and inserting it to lower the coupler.
The second problem is that it derails any following car, I believe this is caused by the fairly wide sweep that the end of the Pullman makes on a curve? at that point the coupler seems to run out of it's flexibility and the follower is forced off the outside of the curve.
I note that # 29's are 7/64" longer and about 1/16" lower. The extra 1/16" will not solve all of the height problem? but I'm not sure about the extra 7/64" solving the derailing problem.
Looks like I've just solved my own problem??
Thanks anyway for listening.

Longer shank couplers will help a lot with sharp curves. Depending on how sharp a curve you are trying to negotiate, this is one place where truck mounted couplers can really do the most good. A long shank coupler mounted on something like a Rivarossi/Athearn six wheel truck can sometimes make all the difference.

Try using an "overset" head along with the lengthened shank with the Talgo trucks. I had a similar problem with my 85-footers.
