coupler conversion

what is the easiest way to convert cars with the plastic hook-horn couplers to something that looks more realistic. most of my cars are older.

I used kadee 148's. They are #5 couplers with whiskers as the springs so you don't need to use the inserts. They have worked in everything I have converted so far.

ok, but most of my rolling stock is from the early to mid 90's.

Most of mine are from 70's

on your coupler pockets is there the plastic i eye looking piece that the coupler centered on?

Yes, kadee also makes spacers in case the eye is smaller than the hole in the coupler
