Correct size crossings?

My son and I are setting up a multi-train O scale layout. I want to include some flashing grade crossings, but the lionel crossing gates I have are way out of scale. They are 8-9" tall. My local hobby stores only carries Lionel or a limited selection of O scale accessories.

What brand flashing crossings and gates do you use if you don't want them towering over the trains and buildings?
