I’ve been using car cards and waybills forever. I’ve been to a few division op sessions, and they’ve used switch lists, which I have really liked. But setting it all up kinda scared me off. (I shudder at the thought of installing drivers and the geeky operability of tools like JMRI.)

But I heard a podcast where the pike owner used SwitchList, saying it was straightforward to set up. And it runs on my Mac. So I invested an afternoon, entering my cars, loads, towns etc. and tried things until I got the hang of it. I’ve got to say, it is pretty slick. I’ve generated my first switch list, and will try a local freight run today. Then I’ll open another session and see how it sets up.

I like how it automatically returns empties and allocates cargos to cars.
