I think Fordyce has a few too many gangsters. That last guy gave the engineer a look like he was the one in charge. Darwin's law will weed out folks like him.

I guess the police in Arkansas have better things to do.........Running the gates is a minimum of three tickets ......running a stop sign/light, failure to yield the right-of-way, and crossing a double yellow line.

I don't know what the deal is in Arkansas. We used to do Operation Lifesaver task forces with the SP police. The SP cop would be in the lead until and radio any violations to us. We'd usually have 8-10 units spread out through the county at the known bad crossings. In addition to the violations you cited, driving around a lowered gate in California is an additional violation. The average ticket would cost the diver about $1000 and four or five points on his license. It was amazing how many of these gate runners also had outstanding warrants so they'd get their car impounded and got to jail as well. We usually had news coverage when we were doing this and it didn't take too may times of running these operations before most people behaved themselves. :)

we did operation lifesaver here a few weeks ago. wrote 58 citations in about 3 hours

thought this was a neat pic. We had motors and a car....... car was mainly to keep traffic off the bikes while they shadowed the train.

I even caught a Fordyce police officer in an Impala going around the gate while a train was coming on video.I don't think he was going on a call.

Cool, I'm glad to see some jurisdictions still take this seriously. When we started doing the Operation Lifesaver task forces, our grade crossing accidents dropped by 50% almost overnight.

Apparently there's something about Arkansas..... I know KCS hits atleast 1-3 cars a month in Ashdown, Ark.

That may well be the situation here soon. NS is RAISING the speed limit on trains traveling thru Bessemer. They are gonna raise it in increments from 40 to eventually 60mph for freights and to 70mph for the Crescent.

This is going to affect 26 grade crossings, many of which lack gates and are unsignalled.

We got a lot of unsignalled/ungated crossings up in my area---just have to be careful in crossing---we don't see too many accidents this way--The last one happened several months ago----some guy racing a train to the crossing--

I'm assuming the photographer had a cell phone. He should have put down the camera and dialed 911. Just having the kids on video on the tracks is enough for a trespassing charge. I imagine the NS police would have been happy to cite them if the local PD had them in custody. As railfans, sometimes the most important thing is not getting a good shot. It's idiots like that that make it tough on us.
