Car Stabilizers & 3-Point Suspension

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

"FAST AND EASY" CAR STABILIZER Suspension System consists of a pair of precision preformed, extremely thin, metal circular plates with tiny scientific balance knife-edge central ridges, that are fitted to the underside of the car body, against the truck king pin bosses. The trucks are removed, the washers glued in place and the trucks re-attached. It's that simple!

Has anyone had the occasion to use this product,...

...in lieu of, or in addition to, the old 3-point suspension adjustments??
Hmmm, I like it. It IS basically the old 3-point suspension. One truck pivots front to back, the other side to side. I can see it being a nightmare if one gets them glued in a few degrees too many off of their intended 0 / 90 degree alignment though.

Is it possible that these allow you to tighten up that 'loose truck' of the 3-point suspension just a little bit less more?

Cars "wiggle" because missing of a good working three-point suspension on cars! This is not a problem that can be solved by a steadier fixing of screws. Trucks need a free movement for following also a bad trackage. However not both trucks need should be absolutely free swivel, one yes, the second in a light limited manner.
Look the pictures and you know what I mean (and what I do with all my cars).

One frame bolster is equipped with a washer for an increased position which fits the correct high of couplers and so this truck can swivel free over its center in all directions!

The second truck lies on two off-center points so that the truck can not swing sideward. This is a typical three-point constraint that avoids wiggle of cars.

Here yet a different solution for the truck with the sideward bracing - short square brass profiles are glued on car boolster and the truck received two nails (or small bolts) on right position.

it's easier to ser one truck fairly tight and the other a bit looser ... accomplishes pretty much the same thing ... without having to allow for the extra height
