Man, I was just reading about this loco a couple days ago, identifiable by the camel hump, but I can’t remember what it was or what site I happened to be on…
Thank you, I've just bought this (for $20 inc. postage it's worth it) It's a non runner but I love messing around with electrics, and if it's the proverbial DoDo, I'll use it to practice my non existent painting/weathering skills
Could be GP9 but louvers under radiators at end of long hood sat GP7. GP9 would have 1 short set of louvers there. Odd there are no louvers at all below cab.

GP9 had 1 set of battery box louvers under cab, GP7 had 3 sets. GP7 had 2 sets of lon louvers at end of long hood under radiators, GP9 had one very short set. All louvers were mirrored on each side of loco. Lots of variations as units were modified/rebuilt.
If that was offered as a Lionel HO engine, it is a rebadged Athearn GP9, which is really a GP7. It had a questionable motor made by GE, and single truck drive.
