I looked around the room and it looks like I can fanagle some extra room.
Don't worry about space, I can figure it out.

That's a fine train set for a starter. The engine uses the same drivetrain as in the more expensive Silver and Gold lines, although the detail isn't as good (no separate grab irons, plows, and MU cables). It will look and run fine for a starter layout. The locomotive can easily be converted to DCC should the time come when you want to change over. The only other nit is that the caboose bears no resemblance to anything ever owned by the UP, but all the cars of good quality and roll well. Atlas Tru-Track looks and works good, and the power pack has more than enough power to run a longer train or two trains. This is a good way to get into model railroading at a reasonable price.

Got it and set it up, its pretty cool just going around a circular track.

Now to get into the depths of the hobby, time to start a table!

Ghost,

After 20 years out of the hobby, I bought one of those Atlas Trainman Sets for my kids 2 years ago. It is a very good deal; the loco is very high quality esp for the price. Every piece of it is reuseable/expandable. My youngest son to this day still calls the Trainman GP38-2 that came with it "Quiet CSX."

I now have a 6X12 layout in DCC with about 15 locos and about 50 cars.

Yep, its all for the kids...right...Needless to say, its pretty addicting and fun. I believe your approaching it the right way though--ease into it, see if its something you like, and go from there.

Good luck

No pics, it is just a very small oval on my floor at the moment.

The trains sure are entertaining, I now see how you guys can have 20+ years doing it!
