I have been obsessed with Big Boy since I was a kid. It took me 62 years to finally see one rolling down the rails. I shot two videos last Sunday. If this is not the place for this, someone can take it down. Hope you like them,
You are a brave man, trusting that the camera would not be sucked up from the ballast and flung who knows where. I've been a bit too close to the tracks a few time and felt that "suck". Of course, it did look like it was going a whole lot slower there than it runs out here across Kansas & Wyoming.
Grandson and I got crossbuck close as it went past. A numer of years back. While we could hear it several miles out, I'd have thought it would have a different whistle.
Big Boy stopped in Topeka this afternoon at the Great Overland Station, almost 3/4 hour late. When it finally left, it was running almost 2 hours late. In driving around for awhile to kill time, I saw several freight trains here and there, sitting and waiting. Must have been a problem somewhere up or down the line. I'll bet the dispatchers were pulling their hair out, trying to juggle schedules.
I got to see the consist about a mile or so after it had left the Great Overland Station. Surprisingly, it looked like it had traded off over half its normal consist to take some revenue freight along with it. Sorry, no pic's or video. I'm sure somebody will have something posted somewhere.
