Hey all,
What kind of paint is most common for concrete, rocks, ground cover, etc? I just want something that will look good as a background for the later application of ground foam, or ballast. I've heard latex paint is best to use, but what brand/color?
thanks!
Medium to very light tans, greys, whites, some black, some "Burnt Umber", some yellow or ocher,...
I prefer the latex flat paints for scenery. I've managed to find suitable shades in the clearance isle at the lumber yard. Artist or craft latex paints work good when I'm looking for a specific color. I've never had any problems when mixing colors as long as they are all latex based.
for this purpose brands are useless, they're all 'good enough'.
I bought a gallon of mis-mixed house latex at Home Depot 15 years ago, it is a nice 'dirt' color and has proven adequate for the purpose. Search the mis-mixed shelf often, if you can't snag some there, a few small cans of the cheapest you can find in a variety of light browns, tans, etc will do nicely. flat finish is best altho in a pinch satins and even glossy can be flattened after application.
Just get an appropriate "dirt" color. The cheap stuff at Wally World is what I'd go with. The last I bought (a few weeks ago) was $7.77/gal. I use it for base paint, but not on hardshell scenery.
As a side note, wet latex paint does a good job of bonding ground foam. This saves time and money.
Thanks for all the info guys. I forgot that Walmart sells paint.. I'm liking that $7 price tag haha.
