Long Winded Old Fart
You ever have those projects sitting on your shelves for months & months & keep saying I'm going to pull it out when I get the time, but, the time seems to never come. One of mine is I have to start assembling a bunch of Kadee couplers that have been in my parts box forever. I'm getting to the point of running out of assembled ones & not having the funds to buy anymore new one's. So, guess this week(maybe) I'll have to put some together.
I've always got projects for the layout that I work on all the time, but some just seem to sit on that Back Burner forever.
Another one that's been sitting on the shelf for about 3 years that I bought off of Ebay is a set of ER Models Monorails. I had big plans & bought xtra track to fit the space, but, it didn't fit where I thought it would go & now have to make it fit someplace else.:rolleyes::cool::eek:

I have a boatload of these. I keep 'em in my "round tuit" cupboard :D

Structures, resin freightcar kits, brass to paint. As long as you're modeling, what the heck!:D:D:D

I would bet you'd be hard pressed to find a member of this hobby that doesn't have a very large back burner!:D Personally, I have a few things that I've been meaning to get to. Most of those things involve painting or building actual trains and rolling stock. I'm so caught up in building the layout that I haven't felt like adding rolling stock or even another loco to the mix. The locomotive is an older Mantua Pacific from my childhood. I bought a new motor and detail parts to spiff it up a little. I figure I can rebuild the locomotive when I start to run out of things to add to the scenery.

I have way too many unopened packages, half built structures, temporary track, a "Bridge to Nowhere", half painted automobiles, roads with no pavement, buildings with no doors or windows, etc..etc.

And that's just on the layout!!!

I'm not even going to mention the 1:1 scale projects on the back burner.

This "back burner" is the reason my wife rolls her eyes when I claim that I can't move forward without some sort of purchase! Just yesterday I made that claim and managed to model all day long without a purchase.:D Of course, I can't finish yesterdays project without a purchase.;)

I ran out of couplers today, so, that means a purchase. Even put springs in about 30 & still ran out. I'm replacing all of the Mchenrys that have the plastic springs(that break real easy). Trying to use nothing but Kadee's.:D

Now, according to my wife, your project has now left the back burner. It is no longer a project that has been purchased but not started. You'll have to start another project before you purchase anything!:D

Edit: You better start the Monorail!

ROTFLMAO!!!!!!

Well, you guys have hit on three separate catagories of 'Back Burner Projects'
1. Purchased, never started
2. Started never finished (My definition of Back Burner)
3. Started and abandoned

I have tons of each. My goal the last three years is to lower the number of these. I figure I have most everything I need to have a completed (not finished) layout. I just have to stop undertaking new projects before finishing old. It sounds that like everyone else here, I am failing, but I am making progress! The fact I'm running out of space I'm trying to view as a good thing since I can't take on something I have no place for. Yet it seems that I'm finding more that needs to be done everytime I try to complete something! Oh well, there are worse problems to confront in life.

I think you should tell your wife that it's on the back burner.....just simmering it will be done soon.....it has to be ready before being served. LOL :D

I think I include purchased items in the "back burner" category because every item I purchase is intended to be used immediately. It just doesn't always work out that way. I get distracted easily. I think I have A.D.S. that's Attention Deficit........ Squirrel!!!!:D

None of my projects are officially on the "back-burner". I have about 100 Blue Box cars that need metal wheels and another 60 that need the McHenry's replaced, (yea I got caught up in that as well). I just need time and my LHS needs to have more in stock when I visit. I'm just too forgetful to ask him to order them when I'm there...it's 35 miles away and I only get in once every three weeks and there are too many other goodies that end up on my future projects shelf (shelves)! I'm in the process of building benchwork in my new railroad (retirement) building so the 40 or so building kits have no where to go yet. One day!!!

Yah ... I call it my layout ;)

 SO TRUE!!!
I've gotta put my other "hobbies" (mainly collecting old electronics from thrift stores) on the back burner and clean up and finish that mess I call my "layout". I'm in the middle of "re-arranging" the layout again for the umpteenth time (too much track, almost no scenery in the previous set up), so hopefully I'll have the diligence to finish the line. I'm sure my trains are tired of just sitting around.:D
