I am considering buying a SF 4-8-4 and was wondering what the quality of the Bachmann locomotive is. Does it run well and how well is it made.

That model has been around for many years.........the newer versions are OK, but the older versions can be pretty poor. I have one from somewhere in the middle, and once it's moving down the track it moves and pulls quite nicely, but it's a bit jerky getting up to speed. They can be helped a lot by adding pickups to the tender. If you're looking for something with great low speed look elsewhere. if you want something that will run laps at a club for hours on end, it's a decent choice.
